INTERACTIVE GAMES FOR STUDENTS
The ESL Fun Games website offers several interactive games that students can play alone, against others, or in teams. There is a Jeopardy Quiz Show game with a review of prefixes and suffixes (listed as a medium/high level game). There are also games about other grammatical skills, such as regular and irregular verb tenses, prepositions, and adjectives.
This Funbrain website has a game called "Rooting out Words" which has the player choosing correct roots and affixes. The game moves from an easy level to one called Super Brain. Explanations are given throughout.
The Fun English Games website has a game allowing students to provide the correct affixes to form new words, as well as definitions for the affixes.
The Many Things website has two prefix games designed for ELL students. While the games on this site are less flashy than the others, they do offer a fun way to practice recognizing and remembering the meanings of prefixes.
Scholastic.com has a fun quiz specifically for Greek roots and affixes. The harder level takes some careful reading and thinking!
